Low-Speed High-Torque PMSM VFD System on the Main Inclined Shaft Belt Conveyor

The belt conveyor is a crucial equipment for mining production and transportation, and the quality of its operation has a direct impact on production outcomes. The conventional conveyor drive system relies mainly on the CST system, but due to long-term fatigue and wear, difficulties in starting heavy loads, frequent failures, long repair cycles, and high costs may arise during usage, which negatively affects the operation of the main inclined shaft belt and hinders mine production. To address this issue, the low-speed and high-torque permanent magnet synchronous motor variable frequency drive system has been implemented, resulting in notable achievements and a positive impact on mine production.

The features of the permanent magnet synchronous motor variable frequency drive system include:

① The permanent magnet synchronous motor boasts high torque and low speed characteristics and can be directly connected to the belt conveyor without requiring additional reducers.

② The drive system’s overall structure is relatively simple, with easy installation and operation and high reliability.

③ The system’s transmission efficiency is relatively high, with the permanent magnet synchronous motor’s efficiency exceeding 97%. When compared to the ordinary asynchronous motor variable frequency drive system, it has ideal high-speed coupling, reducer, and motor efficiency.

④ The drive system’s start and stop are relatively stable, and start-up operations with loads can be completed with high quality.

⑤ The system’s maintenance requirements are relatively low, and overall maintenance costs are low, effectively saving related resources.

⑥ Power balance can be achieved, even during long-term operation.

Given the numerous advantages of the low-speed and high-torque permanent magnet synchronous motor variable frequency drive system, its application to the main inclined shaft belt conveyor is highly feasible and effective. With the system’s various functions, not only will existing conveyor problems be resolved, but the conveyor’s operating environment will also be improved, energy consumption and maintenance costs will be controlled effectively, and the economic and social benefits will exceed those of the original system. Transportation efficiency can be significantly improved, which is highly beneficial for mine production. Thus, further research on system application is worthwhile to lay a solid foundation for its implementation.
